Over 2,000 drones to turn Dubai Frame into world’s largest Tetris game
Global gaming finalists to battle it out beneath the Dubai night sky
DUBAI – Unless you’ve been living under a block, chances are you’ve played Tetris at some point.
This December, the classic game is returning in the most spectacular way imaginable, as Red Bull turns the Dubai Frame into the world’s largest live, playable Tetris experience.
From December 11 to 13, Dubai will host the Red Bull Tetris World Final, bringing together the top 60 players from across the globe. But the true showstopper will unfold on December 13, when over 2,000 drones take to the night sky to project a playable Tetris game within the towering frame itself.
How it works
A supercomputer will process each player’s moves in real time, transmitting data to synchronised drones that will light up to mirror every Tetris block’s fall and rotation. The result? The Dubai Frame becomes a glowing, sky-high gaming screen – an unprecedented fusion of technology, creativity and competition.
Spectators can watch the aerial spectacle from Zabeel Park, where the skyline will burst into colour as digital blocks cascade across the air. Tickets will soon be available on Platinumlist.
The road to Dubai
The global Red Bull Tetris tournament kicked off on June 6, inviting players aged 18 and over to compete in online qualifiers. Top scorers from each country advanced to their National Finals, where they battled in one-on-one matches for a coveted spot in Dubai.
The UAE National Finals take place on October 24, with 16 local players vying for a place in the world showdown.
What’s new in Red Bull Tetris
This isn’t the Tetris of the 1980s. The revamped version introduces speed boosts, gravity shifts, power-ups, and the rare Golden Tetrimino, adding thrilling new dynamics to the familiar gameplay. The grand finale will also feature live music performances and special guests, ensuring a night where gaming meets art and innovation on a monumental scale.
For now, gamers and spectators alike can prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience – Tetris, reimagined in the Dubai sky.
